Four Technology Packages, One Design Authority, One Immovable Deadline

Independent technology design across AV, IT and Wi-Fi, structured cabling and security for a British international school's new sixth form campus in Hong Kong.

  • Client: A leading British international school in Hong Kong
  • Location: New sixth form campus, two floors of a commercial building adjacent to the existing senior campus
  • Services: Independent technology design consultancy across AV, IT and wireless, structured cabling, and security and access control
  • Programme: Fixed handover ahead of the 2026 academic year

The Challenge

A leading British international school needed a new sixth form campus, fitted out across two floors of a commercial building next to its existing senior school. The deadline could not move: students arrive at the start of the academic year whether the technology is ready or not.

School environments concentrate every workplace AV challenge and add their own. Teaching spaces must work instantly for every teacher, every lesson, with no tolerance for fumbled starts. Presentation and assembly spaces need to handle everything from a lesson to a parent evening. And because a campus is one estate, AV, IT, cabling and security have to be designed as a whole, not as four packages that meet for the first time on site.

Our Approach

PTS was engaged as the independent technology design consultant, sub-consultant to the project’s lead delivery firm, who ran the competitive tender and overall project management. PTS held end-to-end design ownership across four packages: audio visual; IT and wireless, including predictive Wi-Fi design validated by post-installation heat mapping; structured cabling; and physical security and access control, together with the server room, UPS and rack design.

On the AV side, the design centred on consistency and simplicity: standardised teaching-space AV that behaves identically in every room, so staff learn it once, with more capable presentation provision where the sixth form curriculum and whole-school events demand it. Because PTS also designed the network, cabling and containment, every AV position arrived on site with its power, data and infrastructure already coordinated.

We supported the tender in a consultancy capacity, including technical evaluation, tender interviews and vendor selection, and retained design authority through construction, inspecting installation quality and verifying the delivered systems against the design before handover, working alongside the MEP, acoustic and architectural teams throughout.

The Outcome

A campus designed as one coherent technology estate rather than four separate contracts, delivered against a fixed academic deadline. The school opens each day on AV that simply works, on infrastructure that was verified before handover, and with a single point of design accountability from first concept to final sign-off.
